Mr. Jason Economides, concertmaster of both the Midland and Alma Symphony Orchestra, is instructor of violin and viola and artist in residence at Alma College. Besides leading the Alma College string studio, he also directs the Gratiot-Isabella RESD string program and the Mid-Michigan Youth Orchestra.

He has earned music performance degrees from Arizona State University and the University of Michigan where he studied with Camilla Wicks. He has performed in master classes for Josef Gingold, Daniel Majeski, Mischa Mischakoff, and Samuel Thaviu and has been coached in chamber music by Martin Katz, Eckhart Sellheim, and members of the Emerson Quartet.

Mr. Economides was a member of the Grand Rapids Symphony from 1989 until 2002, performing as a section violinist and assistant principal second violin. He has also performed with the Chicago Opera Theater, New World Symphony, Greater Lansing Symphony, Flint Symphony, and Ann Arbor Chamber Orchestra as well as serving as concertmaster of the Elgin Symphony. While in Grand Rapids, Mr. Economides taught at Aquinas College and Calvin College.

Summer activities this year included a presentation at the American String Workshop in Ann Arbor, a performance of chamber music of Bach performed on Beaver Island and teaching viola at the Master String Summer Camp in Lisle, Illinois. He is married to Patty Baser and has two little girls, Zoe and Eleni.
