Honored by the American Symphony Orchestra League as one of the outstanding young conductors in the nation, Murray Gross is also an award-winning composer and lecturer. His compositions have had numerous professional performances, been broadcast over National Public Radio, and have received many honors including a Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI) Award.

In demand as a guest conductor, recent engagements have taken Maestro Gross to Italy, Mexico, and throughout the United States. Working with such artists as Jessye Norman, Joshua Bell, Paula Robison, Carter Brey, Misha Dichter and many others, Maestro Gross has garnered rave reviews on three continents. His programs with the National Symphony of Uruguay were televised to great acclaim, while in Germany the critics wrote that "Murray Gross succeeded in a singularly impressive way. The engaging manner of the conductor made for a personal and interesting interpretation."

Murray Gross studied at the Interlochen Arts Academy, New England Conservatory and the Oberlin Conservatory, where he received the degree Master of Music. In 1978 he was honored with a Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst grant which enabled him to spend two years composing and conducting in Munich, Germany. In addition, Mr. Gross trained at the Pierre Monteux Domaine School and the International Bartok Festival in Hungary. Chosen by Antal Dorati in 1980 to serve as Assistant Conductor of the Detroit Symphony, Gross led that orchestra in hundreds of educational, pops and community concerts. An active guest conductor on several continents, he served as Music Director of Michigan's West Shore Symphony from 1982 through 2001.

Mr. Gross's compositions have been performed by groups ranging from the New York New Music ensemble (conducted by Robert Black) to the Peninsula Music Festival (conducted by Thor Johnson). His trio for flute, viola and harp, "Cloud Forest," won honorable mention in the 2003 Debussy Trio International Composition Contest. Murray Gross is currently completing his Doctorate of Musical Arts at Michigan State University.
